Staff Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Camp Mountain Chai Located?
Camp Mountain Chai is located in the beautiful San Bernardino Forest. The campsite is located at 7500 feet in the mountains. The camp is located about 2 hours from Los Angeles and San Diego, California, and about four hours from Las Vegas, Nevada. Our location in the high dessert is both unique and breathtaking.

What is the CMC facility like?
Camp Mountain Chai itself sits on 20 acres surrounded by National Forest Land. All of our buildings are utilized through the year and so they have certain luxuries like carpeting and heat. We have our own swimming pool, incredible ropes course including a zipline and 40 foot climbing tower. An incredible outdoor amphitheatre plays host to our services and other programs. Even though the weather at camp is spectacular and we do most of our actives outside we do have a couple of indoor programming areas that can be used as well. It is a beautiful landscape filled with tall trees and incredible views.

What are the Campers Like?
Our campers come from all over the South Western portion of the US. Most of our campers come from Southern California, Arizona and Las Vegas. Some of the campers are with us for the first time, while others will be experienced veterans. Our campers range in age from 8-16 and are divided into three age groups.

What is the week of staff training like?
Staff training is a time for you to get comfortable at camp both physically and mentally. Staff will start to get familiar with the routines, tradition, policies and programs at camp. This is the time when we will give you the tools you will need to succeed as a camp staff member. But the most important thing that will happen during staff training is the whole staff will come together to form one machine that will run throughout the summer.

What about time off?
Days off are a must and we make sure you take them. This is your time to recharge. You will receive one day off a week not including the first or last week of camp. Many staff on days off head to the beaches of the OC, LA or San Diego. Some head to Las Vegas and others just take the time to relax. Each day off begins at curfew and ends the next day at curfew. You will receive one early day off in which you can leave camp at 6:00pm.

You will also receive between 1-2 hours off a day. All of our staff shares responsibilities of watching cabins at night. On average you will sit On Duty for your cabin one every three nights.
