All Camp & Evening Programs

Programs at camp vary both in substance and content, ensuring enough variety to maximize each camper’s experience. Great planning, care and preparation go into our many evening programs:

Unit Programs:
Most evening programs are done by unit, and are planned by the staff within each of the units. Staff in each unit divide into small groups and program activities that combine fun with meaningful, substantive Jewish content. Popular unit evening programs include getting to know your counselors, messy night, Bar/Bat Mitzvah night, Harry Potter night, treasure hunts, themed dance parties and Jews Cruise at the pool.

All Camp Programs:
Popular all camp programs include Maccabiah, CMC’s color war competition, in which the entire camp is divided into Red & Blue teams and engage in an exciting, intense, and actionpacked two and a half days of competition and sportsmanship. We also have Embassy, a campwide full day game that blends capture the flag and treasure hunting into a unique and exhilarating competition that campers talk about for years on end. Also popular is our 4th of July Carnival, complete with dunk tank appearances from our directors and various members of our leadership staff and Chai’dol, CMC’s world renown song and dance competition.

On certain evenings each session we come together as a camp community for evening programs. Typically, these occur on Saturday nights before Havdalah. The goals are to combine fun and excitement with some meaningful, substantive Jewish content for our campers. Past all camp programs include human board game night, the all camp wedding and movie night up on the basketball courts.

Israel Evening Programs:
Once each session our Mishlachat, our group of Israeli staff members who come to camp in part to help us establish a connection to Israel, develop and facilitate an all camp evening program. These Israeli evening programs are designed to educate our campers about Israel, both its history as well as current events facing the country today.

Special Evening Programs:
Every so often each session we have special, all camp evening programs that serve as a departure from our typical schedule. These programs include our awesome talent shows, our popular rock concert and of course, CHAI’dol, Camp Mountain Chai’s all camp song and dance competition, a staple of our first session of each summer.

Shabbat:
On Friday nights, we switch things up from our regular schedule as we begin the Sabbath. Campers and staff eat not as cabins as we typically do but with their friends, scattered throughout the Chadar Ochel (dining hall). After dinner we go into song session in the Mo’adon (gathering space), a camper and staff favorite and staple of each week. From there we have services at the Teatron (amphitheater) before heading up to the basketball courts for our always popular Israeli Dancing session. On Saturday evenings after our all camp program we stay together as a camp community for Havdalah, concluding the Sabbath, reflecting on the week that past and looking forward to the week ahead. Shabbat at camp is a special time, a highlight for most of our campers and staff.
